A ride to the Garretson area takes you back in history. It's almost as if you've completely left South Dakota and have suddenly transported yourself to another land, complete with wandering streams, and lots of rocky terrain. Located near Palisades State Park, this riding venue offers you the opportunity to see the areas where Frank and Jesse James once roamed. A fair amount of camping sites exist in this area, at Split Rock Creek Park, located near by.

Legend has it that Frank and Jesse James once engaged in a gun battle with authorities on this site, and Jesse jumped over this gulch on his horse to escape the posse. Devils Gulch is a narrow, deep, cavernous area, complete with winding Split Rock Creek, water falls, and lots of rocky walls. A "must see," when in the Sioux Falls area! Wear good hiking boots... it gets slippery!
