South Dakota is mostly a pretty flat state. But the western part of the state and the Black Hills are very mountainous and scenic. Mount Rushmore is located just south of Rapid City, near Keystone. The Crazy Horse monument is located nearby, and is still under construction.

The Badlands are a scene straight out of a science fiction movie. For miles, all that can be seen are flat plains and grasslands, All of a sudden, appears an alien landscape made up of lava formations and layered formations. The Badlands are located near Wall, South Dakota, and can be seen by taking a drive along the 31 mile Badlands Scenic Byway - also known as Interior Highway 240.
